About Us#

At Chroma, we build software that millions of developers use to create AI applications. We focus on the memory layer of AI—what AI systems know and remember. This new frontier requires new user interfaces and tools, and we are building them from the ground up.

The Role#

This role may be a good fit if you are excited about: data-intensive dense user-interfaces, novel visualizations to explore data, and IDEs. (Do you own every Tufte book?)

This is a "technical" design role - it requires you to hold deep empathy for developers and their workflows. Ideally you can also build prototypes of your ideas. A lot of the work requires "feel" and building something is often the best tool for iteration.

We have lots of ideas - but we don't know what will work yet. The ideal candidate is also excited about exploring the idea maze and building the future together.

What You'll Do#

• Design complex data visualization systems
• Create high-density user interfaces for technical users
• Build and test prototypes
• Collaborate with engineering teams
• Help explore new territory in AI development tools

Who you are#

• You have excellent taste - either in art, architecture, typography, furniture, fashion, graphic design, and ideally all of the above
• If you do something, you do it with excellence, even when it hurts
• You are able to think big and small, from the architecture down to the details
• You make many versions of your work and don't get overly tied to things
• You are ambitious about what you can accomplish in your own lifetime

Bonus#

• Have worked on WebGL projects in the past (on the design side only is ok, but you know what's possible)
• You've read Art and Fear - "Over the long run, the people with the interesting answers are those who ask the interesting questions."
